Flatbed Notes

manuals, TWAIN, and drivers

Manuals / drivers

I do not host commercial driver files here. I keep checksums and notes so I can tell whether a file is the same one I used before. If you find an old vendor FTP mirror, save the readme file too. It usually explains more than the installer.

ItemNotesStatus
Adaptec ASPI layerNeeded by several old SCSI scan utilities on Windows 98.Vendor page moved many times.
HP DeskScan IIReliable with ScanJet 4c if the SCSI chain is already stable.Manual saved locally, not mirrored here.
Epson TWAIN 4Better preview controls than later simplified packages.Driver removed from regional site.
Mustek panel utilityInstalls easily, leaves odd startup entries.Mirror unavailable, checked 2007-04-13.
Canon ScanGear toolboxGood enough for line art if automatic sharpening is disabled.Archived copy noted in paper binder.

TWAIN reminder

TWAIN is the conversation between the scanning application and the scanner driver. When a program says "no scanner found" but the vendor utility works, the driver may be present but not registered correctly for TWAIN.

A dead link is not proof a driver is gone. It may be hiding under a newer product category, an FTP index, or an archived regional support page.
