Manuals / drivers
I do not host commercial driver files here. I keep checksums and notes so I can tell whether a file is the same one I used before. If you find an old vendor FTP mirror, save the readme file too. It usually explains more than the installer.
| Item | Notes | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Adaptec ASPI layer | Needed by several old SCSI scan utilities on Windows 98. | Vendor page moved many times. |
| HP DeskScan II | Reliable with ScanJet 4c if the SCSI chain is already stable. | Manual saved locally, not mirrored here. |
| Epson TWAIN 4 | Better preview controls than later simplified packages. | Driver removed from regional site. |
| Mustek panel utility | Installs easily, leaves odd startup entries. | Mirror unavailable, checked 2007-04-13. |
| Canon ScanGear toolbox | Good enough for line art if automatic sharpening is disabled. | Archived copy noted in paper binder. |
TWAIN reminder
TWAIN is the conversation between the scanning application and the scanner driver. When a program says "no scanner found" but the vendor utility works, the driver may be present but not registered correctly for TWAIN.
A dead link is not proof a driver is gone. It may be hiding under a newer product category, an FTP index, or an archived regional support page.
